Poem: I'M OBLIGED

What are my writings..............?

Are they mine.............?

No........I think not...Not really

My writings are just a vehicle..

A way of saying my thing.....His thing...Our thing

Things that are

" WITHIN US ALL "

My writings will need editing

     publishing

and

purchasing

I will need new ideas

I will need to use my imagination more

But

For the opportunity of letting me use

the talents you have given me, Lord

I appreciate it. -

I'm Obliged........

"He's a poet, he's a picker"

One of the things that continue to amaze my two sisters and me is the sheer variety of the work of Les Green. He was a flower arranger, a painter of signs, and walls, and a musician, among his many gifts.

One of the aspects I had not ever written about is his poetry. That's because he did this after he had moved from Binghamton, NY, where the family grew up, to Charlotte, NC. In fact, I had only second-hand knowledge of his writings.

I'm told by my sister Marcia that it was the delivery, and not just the words that mesmerized the audiences. This is unsurprising. His singing and his guitar playing had the same effect on people.

In any case, Les Green wrote over 100 poems. He even arranged them in a bound package, which he titled Within Us All. I've shipped a version to the Copyright Office. We thought to share the poetry here, one every week. We might also interject other aspects of his creativity.

Incidentally, Elgee Arts is how he sometimes identified his body of work, from his initials.

And the poems we'll be publishing are, to the degree possible, in the form he wrote them. This means, among other things, that he used a LOT of dots, Elipses were not nearly enough. And he used quirky indentations.

The title of this piece comes from Kris Kristofferson's The Pilgrim, Chapter 33.
